Mary was an orphan girl
Abandoned at the airport turn
Left without a reason why next to a book of haunting lullabies

Mary was a grown up kid, tries forgiving what her parents did
She looks into the deep blue sky and sings a sweet and haunting lullaby

Out the book a letter falls, it drops onto the ground
She reads the words they say "Dear Mary, we're sorry..."

Mary is a child in a lullaby, the words she sings are all they hear now
And underneath the laughter she wants to cry
Mary is a girl that we've all once known, keeping all the past a mystery
She's searching for the answers to tell her why she cries

Why do you cry?

Mary is a girl with pride, with loving children by her side
She passes on the reasons why she sings those sweet and haunting lullabies

Inside the book are stories of the past I never knew,
they read the words aloud, "Dear Mary, we're sorry..."

Mary is the child in a lullaby, the words she sings are all they hear now
